A Bureaucrat daughter in Punjab reportedly got 72 crore rupees in ‘salamis’ from guests at her wedding.

This was revealed by Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in the national assembly.

He made the revelation during his speech in the parliament yesterday.

While speaking in the parliament, Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that he was told by Parvez Elahi that the bureaucrat daughter was given 72 crore rupees of salami.

Salami is a traditional ceremony in some South Asian weddings during which the groom’s family presents gifts, typically money, to the bride’s family as a gesture of respect.

“Chaudhry Parvez Elahi told me that at the wedding of a top bureaucrat in Punjab, a person he knew was collecting the salamis,” Asif said.

He went on to add, “When I asked him about how much has he collected, he told me 72 crore.”

The Defence Minister further added that the same bureaucrat’s other daughter had received 1 billion 20 crore in salami on her wedding. Khwaja Asif also revealed that the bureaucrat is still serving as Grade 21/22 officer.
