Supreme Court Hints at Banning YouTube in Pakistan

Just a day after the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) banned online streaming app Bigo in Pakistan, Supreme Court court has hinted at banning YouTube in Pakistan.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan took notice of the objectionable content on YouTube and social media.

“we are not against freedom of expression and masses have right to discuss our performance and decisions as we take salaries from public money but constitution also provides us right of personal life but users of social media and YouTube are targeting our families.”

Justice Qazi Amin remarked

He went on to add that “Masses are being provoked against country’s army, government and judiciary.”

He expressed his dissatisfaction over how the judges families are being discussed on social media and YouTube. The court also issued notices to the foreign ministry and attorney general of Pakistan.

is pertinent to mention that the PTA has already banned Bigo and PUBG in Pakistan and issued final warning to TikTok. YouTube had previously been banned in Pakistan over blasphemous content but that ban was lifted later on.
