Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the province’s first electric bus service in Lahore on Friday, marking a major step toward sustainable urban transport.
Transport Minister Bilal Akbar briefed the chief minister on the project, outlining the buses’ advanced features. Each bus is equipped with GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, and designated seating for individuals with disabilities.

To enhance passenger safety, the floors have been fitted with anti-slip material. The buses can seat 30 passengers, with a total capacity of 80.
To support the fleet, nine dedicated charging stations have been set up at Green Town Hamdard Chowk depot. A fully charged bus can travel up to 250 kilometers, allowing it to complete four full trips before needing to recharge.
For security, CCTV cameras have been installed to prevent any untoward incidents. Initially, 27 electric buses will operate on a 21-kilometer route, covering key areas such as the railway station, Queens Road, Mozang, Ferozepur Road, and PU Campus Bridge.
A full launch is expected by mid-February, with 42 modern bus shelters under construction. Buses will run every nine minutes, and passengers will have the option to pay fares through digital wallets, transport cards, or universal travel cards. Additionally, a mobile app will be introduced for real-time tracking.
