The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has raised the passing marks for MBBS and BDS exams from 50% to 70% to improve medical education standards. This decision was approved in a recent council meeting.
Additionally, medical and dental colleges must now enforce a minimum attendance requirement of 90%, up from 75%, to ensure students receive sufficient academic and practical training.

The council also introduced new policies for self-finance and foreign quota seats. Only candidates who are permanent foreign nationals, Pakistani citizens living abroad, green card holders, Iqama holders, or Maple Leaf Card holders can apply for foreign quota seats.
They must have completed their Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or an equivalent qualification from outside Pakistan and must be residing in a foreign country at the time of application.
Foreign candidates with HSSC or A-level qualifications, including chemistry and biology as mandatory subjects, along with physics or mathematics, are eligible for MBBS and BDS admissions under reserved seats.
The PMDC has instructed all medical and dental institutions to strictly follow these regulations for the 2024-25 admissions cycle.
