A bill which was recently passed by all the political parties in Senate will grant unprecedented perks and privileges to the current, former and future chairmen of the senate.
The bill has attracted massive criticism from some politicians, including deputy chairman Senate Salim Mandviwalla of PPP.
The bill needs approval from the President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi. Once the bill is enforced, despite the financial crisis in the country, current chairman and ex-chairman Senate will be getting the following perks and privileges:
After retirement, every chairman senate will get 12 employees for life, including six permanent security guard as well as being accompanied by VVIP security during his visits.
Some of the benefits hasn’t been specified in the bill, however, he would be granted anything he wants from the finance committee.
Any chairman who has completed his term of 3 years will be entitled for life to full security detail, that is to say, six sentries at the declared residence, four personnel of police, anti-terrorism force, rangers, frontier corps or frontier constabulary in one squad vehicle, for which the federal government in Islamabad, or a provincial government in the respective province, shall make the required arrangements.
He will be getting protocol of deputy head of state or vice president. The chairman senate can request an airplane belonging to the federal, provincial government, armed forces, any flying club or any chartered air service provider for his foreign visit at the cost of the government.
One member of his family will be allowed to travel with him while travelling by a commercial airplane or four members of his family when travelling by a requisitioned airplane.
Other free facilities include official residence, free furnishing, free official vehicles for self and family, free petrol, sumptuary allowance, allowance on taking up and laying down the office, equipment allowance, TA/DA are in addition to the salary of the chairman.
