The desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden has been condemned worldwide.
In a unique protest, which has caught the attention of millions of people around the globe, Iraqi footballers entered the pitch with copies of Holy Quran in their hands before kick-off.
The referees also joined the players in recording their protest by reverently lifting the Holy Quran in their hands and kissing it.
The local Iraqi media covered this display of respect for the Quran, and it was also widely talked about on social media.
It should be noted that an Iraqi refugee seeking to ban the Quran in Sweden was also among those who desecrated the Holy book.
Following the incident, Muslims countries all over the world issued statements, condemning the act.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office of Pakistan said, “Such wilful incitement to discrimination, hatred and violence cannot be justified under the pretext of freedom of expression and protest.”
