The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has dismissed rumours circulating on social media about record-breaking cold weather and snowfall in the country.
Social Media Rumours
In a statement issued on Friday, the PMD clarified that claims of “the coldest days and nights in 100 years” between January 12 and 15, along with snowfall in central Punjab similar to what occurs in Saudi Arabia, are baseless and lack verification.
No Chance of Snowfall in Punjab
The PMD stated that snowfall in central Punjab is not possible due to the region’s geographical and climatic conditions. Such reports are completely unfounded.
Weather Forecast
The department has predicted cold and dry conditions across most parts of the country. However, there is no confirmation of any unusual or historic cold spell.

On January 11, light rain or drizzle, accompanied by strong winds, is expected in areas such as Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Pakpattan.
Advisory for the Public
The PMD has urged the public to rely only on verified information provided through official channels, such as its website. It advised against believing in rumours spread through unofficial platforms, as they only create unnecessary panic.
The department reaffirmed its responsibility to ensure public safety by providing accurate forecasts and updates.
