A trader transporting 35 iPhones was robbed near the Water Pump area in Karachi, with the stolen items valued at over six million rupees, according to the Electronics Market Association.
Muhammad Rizwan Irfan, the association’s president, revealed that the trader had purchased the phones from Saddar Mobile Market and was on his way to Rahim Yar Khan when the robbery occurred. The incident has once again raised alarm over the growing insecurity faced by traders.
This robbery adds to a worrying trend of at least 15 similar cases involving traders in recent months. Irfan urged authorities to address the issue and ensure better safety for businesspeople. A case is currently being registered at the Samanabad Police Station.
This isn’t an isolated incident of theft targeting mobile traders in Karachi. Earlier this year, a shop in Gulshan-e-Maymar’s Z-2 area fell victim to robbers who posed as customers. CCTV footage showed the armed robbers looting cash and mobile phones worth millions while engaging in a deceptive and seemingly friendly exchange with the shop owner.
The increasing number of such incidents underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect traders and businesses in the city. Authorities have yet to announce any significant action plans to address these repeated crimes.
