The Scottish Government, through the British Council, has decided to increase the number of scholarships for the Scotland Pakistan Scholarship Scheme for Young Women and Girls.
The programme’s objective is to make make higher education and secondary level education more accessible to girls from poor family backgrounds across Pakistan.
The additional £500,000 in funding for girls living in those areas worst hit by the recent floods will receive more school and university scholarships.
It will ensure the provision of quality education to these women without facing any difficulties.
For those who don’t know, the scheme was launched in 2013 to provide scholarships for Pakistani women in any HEC-recognized university in the country.
Furthermore, girls study in grades 8-12 are also provided scholarships, which helps to prevent financial constraints from hindering their education.
Until now, the Scottish Government, through the British Council, provided £400,000 in annual scholarship funding for women and girls in the south Asian country.
This year, another £500,000 will be provided, which will be split between school and university scholarships.
