Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed an inquiry into the controversial advertisement promoting Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) Paris flights. The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during a Senate session addressing PIA’s privatisation.
Senator Sherry Rehman voiced concerns over the airline’s future, questioning whether the privatisation plan was still active. She noted that only 19 of PIA’s 34 aircraft are currently operational, with the rest grounded.

Rehman also criticised the Paris flight advertisement, calling it misleading and embarrassing for the airline. The ad featured a PIA plane near the Eiffel Tower with the tagline “We’re coming,” which she claimed misrepresented the airline’s intentions.
Dar confirmed the prime minister’s order for an investigation, stressing that the ad misled the public.
He also highlighted past challenges to PIA’s reputation, citing a statement by former minister Sarwar Khan about fake pilot licences, which led to bans on PIA flights to Europe, the UK, and the US.
Efforts under the current government have reportedly resolved issues with UK authorities.
Dar further stated that 22 of PIA’s aircraft are operational, while 11 are under repair. He reiterated plans for PIA’s privatisation, aiming to involve the corporate sector.
He also noted progress in restoring UK flights, with services expected to resume by March or April, following a team visit in January.
