Kemari Police, with support from a sensitive agency, thwarted a major mobile phone smuggling operation worth around Rs. 50 million, 24NewsHD reported on Sunday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Captain (R) Faizan Ali said the operation was carried out near the Macho Police Check-Post, where a suspicious Revo vehicle was stopped for inspection.
A detailed search revealed hidden compartments inside the vehicle, where 618 mobile phones had been cleverly concealed.
Among the seized phones were 198 iPhones, 509 Android devices, and 40 non-PTA phones reportedly used in iPhone-related operations.
Two individuals, Noor Ullah and Mohammad Hashim, were taken into custody at the scene for their alleged role in the smuggling attempt.
The police confirmed that the vehicle and all recovered phones will be handed over to customs authorities after the necessary procedures are completed.
SSP Faizan Ali said the case highlights the use of specially modified vehicles in illegal trade and the importance of close coordination with intelligence agencies in cracking such operations.
