The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved a Rs. 41 million project to construct a cable car over the Indus River in Kalabagh, Mianwali. This initiative aims to transform the region into a prominent tourist destination by providing visitors with stunning views of the river and its natural surroundings.
The project was approved during a PDWP meeting held on Friday. Officials highlighted the cable car’s potential to attract tourists and stimulate economic growth in the area. It is part of a larger effort to enhance tourism infrastructure in Punjab.
In addition to the cable car, the PDWP approved another major initiative. Under the Chief Minister’s Fund, Rs. 198.2 million has been allocated for promoting e-mechanization through the local production of agricultural machinery.
This scheme is expected to modernize farming techniques and support the agricultural sector. The combined investment in these projects amounts to Rs. 239.2 million, reflecting the government’s commitment to regional development.
Earlier this year, the provincial government announced a glass train service between Rawalpindi and Murree as part of the Murree Development Plan. The train, running along a 65-kilometer route, will offer scenic views of the Margalla Hills and surrounding areas, further boosting Punjab’s tourism appeal.
These initiatives underline the government’s focus on creating sustainable tourism opportunities and improving infrastructure across the province.
