A branch of Layers, one of the most famous bakeries in Pakistan, was sealed after a video of a cockroach near food items circulated on social media.
A customer who went to the bakery spotted the pest and exposed the poor sanitation at the bakery.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) Qandeel Fatima Memon was quick to take action on the directives of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi and sealed the bakery.
The sealed branch of Layers bakery is located in Phase 7 Bahria Town. AC Memon was accompanied by Punjab Food Authority (PFA) officials.
In a tweet, the AC wrote: “On receiving a complaint that a cockroach was found inside the display rack of Layers Bakery Phase 7, the bakery was sealed on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi.”
It isn’t the first time that the popular eatery has made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Earlier in June this year, it was claimed that a lizard was found in the cakes of Layers Bakeshop.
The bakery came under fire, however, it later turned out to be an attempt to tarnish the reputation of Layers.
The officials of the popular bakery had also threatened legal action against those spreading false rumours about them.
