In a recent interview with NDTV, Javed Akhtar was asked about Kangana Ranaut’s praise for his remarks on the 26/11 terror attacks during the Faiz Festival in Lahore, Pakistan.
While Kangana, who is known for her public spats with Javed, had praised the veteran lyricist for his words, it seems like he wasn’t impressed with her reaction.
When asked about Kangana’s comment, Javed simply ignored it and refused to talk about it.
When the anchor pressed him, he responded, “I don’t consider Kangana important so how can she make an important remark. Forget about her. Chaliye aage (Let’s move forward).”
The event in Pakistan saw Javed Akhtar saying, in Urdu, “The attackers weren’t from Norway or from Egypt. They are still present in your country, so you should not be offended if an Indian complains about this.” He also pointed out that while India has hosted several Pakistani artists in the past, Pakistan has never hosted singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Kangana’s rare tweet praising Javed’s poetry was a big surprise for social media users, given that Javed had filed a defamation complaint against her in November 2020.
He claimed that Kangana had hinted at him during an interview while referring to a ‘coterie’ existing in Bollywood, following the turn of events after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in 2020.
In response, Kangana had also issued a counter complaint against him for alleged ‘extortion and criminal intimidation.’
The latest remarks from Javed Akhtar may reignite the ongoing feud between the two, who have been at odds for a while now.
Kangana, who is known for her vocal opinions on social media, has not yet responded to Javed’s latest comments.
It remains to be seen how this latest exchange will play out in the public eye.
