The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) has debunked the reports of a purported ban on the use, possession, and circulation of Rs5000 currency notes.
The fake news was spread through a circular with the letterhead of the Finance Division.
The circular stated that the Rs5000 note would be banned by the end of September under a “significant policy change” by the government.
However, the MoIB Fact Checker department has clarified that there is no such policy change or ban on the Rs5000 note.
The department said that the circular is fake and should be disregarded.
Federal Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi has also dismissed the reports, saying that the government will take action against the elements spreading such “false information”.
The MoIB has advised the public to be careful about fake news and to only rely on information from credible sources.
