The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) will be initiating a crackdown against against the over-the-top (OTT) platforms after Eid -ul-Azha.
This was revealed by the Cable Operators Association of Pakistan Chairman Khalid Arain yesterday.
According to Khalid Arain, crackdown will be launched against OTT platforms such as Netflix right after Eid.
Talking about their meeting with senior PEMRA officials, he said that they were informed about the concerns of cable operators.
One of their concerns is the freedom which OTT platforms enjoys. On the other hand, cable operators have “restrictions in broadcasting several channels.”
He demanded the regularisation of those cable operators, who are providing internet and cable service.
Furthermore, Khalid Arain stated that their demands have been accepted and the decision to grant licenses to cable operators will be taken by a committee of PEMRA.
Although, the chairman of Cable Association made the claim about OTT platforms such as Netflix.
However, it is still unclear whether or not a giant like Netflix could be banned.
