In a sigh of relief for the middle class, International Monetary Fund (IMF) has granted its approval to the electricity relief plan of Rs 15 billion.
The relief plan will benefit electricity consumers with up to 200 units of electricity consumption.
The approval from the IMF came at a time when there have been massive protests across the country against the inflated electricity bills.
Once the plan is implemented, power consumers with a monthly consumption of up to 200 units will likely get a relief of Rs. 3 to Rs. 4 per unit.
Consumers making late bill payments are also likely to avoid any penalties. It is pertinent to mention that consumers exceeding 400 units of electricity will not benefit from the relief plan.
Furthermore, the relief package will only apply to bills for the month of August. According to estimates, 64% of consumers with a maximum consumption of 200 units will get advantage.
