 KPK Appoints Its First Ever Female DPO

Sonia Shamroz has been appointed as the first female DPO in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

Sonia Shamroz, a Grade 18 SP who recently returned home after receiving a chevening Fellowship from UK, has been posted as District Police Officer, Lower Chitral. The first ever female DPO has previously served as Principal at Mansehra Police Training Center.

Last year, Ms Shamroz became the first ever woman police officer who was appointed as principal of the police training school in Mansehra. She is from Abbottabad district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

DPO Sonia was appointed as ASP in 2013 after doing CSS. She has also been posted as Additional SP Abbottabad.

Talking to a local media outlet, Sonia Shamroz said that she is proud to have been appointed as the first female district police officer in the province. She added that in many parts of the world, women are serving alongside men in the defense sector and in the police. 

She termed her appointment as no less than of a challenge but said that KP Police is a police force of heroes. The whole family is proud to have the opportunity to serve the people of Chitral District.”
