First Ever Australian Cricketer Set To Play in Pakistan Domestic Cricket

With the improved security situation in Pakistan, more international players are willing to come and play here. Now in another historic news for Pakistan cricket, an Australian player is going to feature in the domestic cricket of Pakistan.

As per ESPNcricinfo, Australian fast bowler Aaron Summers will become the first Australian player to play in the 2021 One-Day Cup. The fast bowler will be part of the Southern Punjab’s squad in the tournament which will commence from January 8 until the end of next month..

The cricket’s largest website reports that the deal will be confirmed soon and the announcement from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is also expected pretty soon. Although, Australia has closed its border for both departures and arrivals but the 24-year old has been granted a special permission by the government. As per PCB’s playing conditions, each team is allowed to have only one overseas player in their squad.

The player is required to get a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from his home-board. Furthermore, the player’s preferred team has to apply for his inclusion either a month before the start of the season or via special request afterwards. Southern Punjab has opted for the second option since the 2020-21 season has already started.

This isn’t the first time that an overseas player will be part of Pakistan domestic cricket. Before this, as many as 14 players from Afghanistan played for the Afghan Cheetahs in the 2011-12 Faysal T20 Cup. Another Afghani fast bowler, Yamin Ahmadzai, featured in the 2016-17 season and played five first-class games.

Fast bowler Aaron Summers played two matches in the 2019 PSL for Karachi Kings.
